Positive Reinforcement: Recommendations from Co-workers

“Ryan did a great job at Summit Engineering in both his technical work and also in his ability to juggle a wide array of projects and responsibilities. Additionally, he always had a great attitude and was a pleasure to work with both as a valuable colleage and friend. I would strongly recommend Ryan for any organization that needs his technical skill sets and friendly demeanor.” June 28, 2011

Brad Crotteau, Project Manager, Summit Engineering, Inc.
managed Ryan indirectly at Summit Engineering

“Simply put, Ryan is someone you want working for you. He is reliable, diligent, thorough, efficient, and has a great personality. I remember times while at work I had to stay late to finish up projects and Ryan would be one of those people that would come and offer to help me get things done even after his hours were over. On top of his work ethic, he is just outstanding at what he does and anything he puts his mind to.” June 28, 2011

Nirav Patel, Project Engineer, Summit Engineering, Inc.

“Ryan maintains a positive attitude and has a passion for learning. Ryan is willing to do anything asked of him be it related to his job responsibilities or not. Ryan is actively trying to improve himself by continuing to study and take classes at the local college.” February 2, 2009

Gary Becker, Project Manager, Summit Engineering, Inc.
managed Ryan at Summit Engineering

“Ryan is a true asset to any organization. He is one of those rare individuals who always manages a smile and postive word, even while working long hours on complex projects. Ryan was always one of the first people to volunteer for projects or tasks that may have been out of his comfort level of job description. He is an enthusiastic, willing, positive person, who seems to always be learning or trying something new. Ryan retains his individualism while contributing as an avid team player. I know he will be successful in whatever career he pursues.” January 9, 2009

Jane Rogan, Marketing Director, Summit Engineering

“Ryan is a very hard worker and he is willing to take on any task without complaint. Ryan is also very versatile in his abilities. If he doesn’t know how to do something he’ll learn. He treats others with respect and dignity. I enjoy his positive personality and friendliness.” January 8, 2009

Douglas Holster - My Grand-father

My grand-father passed away before I had chance to meet him. Luckily my mom has a fantastic memory, and was able to pass along stories - along with the name of some people he worked with. Back in 2008 I had an opportunity to visit EHDD located in San Francisco. I learned some cool facts: about my grand-father, projects he worked on, people he worked with, and his passion for design. This was a list of projects included in the published book Appropriate: The Houses of Joseph Esherick, wow! Thanks again to EHDD for taking the time to sit & talk, much appreciated!

2010 Update

So after almost 1 year of unemployment... I've started working for a great non-profit organization! If interested shoot an email my way I can update you more on that. I'll leave you with a small fact, this non-profit is another passion of mine.

Other then that I recently finished with my Basic Skills Construction Management Certification through the Santa Rosa Junior College. I'll still be continuing my education at the SRJC in the Fall of 2010. After a brief summit with engineers (ha-ha), I've decided to return to Architecture. One of my true loves and passions.

I also recently had my first art show. A little different from the architectural design side, but still fun! Check that out here. As well as enjoying more photography. Which can be found here.

Old drawings soon?

Recent Happenings: Summer 2009

Last week I had the opportunity to attend a round-table discussion at the office of Jennings Ackerley Architecture, located right near the beautiful AT&T Park in San Francisco. I would like to extend a huge thanks to Mr. Ackerley and his staff for providing this opportunity to myself and others during these hard times.

During this lunch time meeting (thanks again for the fantastic lunch Charles!), around 20+ of us gathered in the main conference room to discuss the current economy and how everyone was doing. The group ranged from licensed architects; like Mr. Ackerley, recent graduates, an interior designer (I didn't forget you Rashad), others soon going for architectural license, and even some other students/unemployed workers like myself.

This was not a mass interview. But instead a chance for others to gather together to discuss possible design competitions, state bid proposals, and other ways to possibly build ones resume. I thought this was a wonderful opportunity and look forward to returning to office in the upcoming weeks. I look forward to the possible design competitions I hope to be involved with, but more importantly I see this is a great option to further my knowledge in the field of architecture and continue towards pursuing my degree in the near future.

Craigslist... the on going journey.

While applying for jobs through craigslist, one potential employer proposed a different idea compared to the rest. The employer had asked that you submit a 3 sentence about yourself. Or perhaps a short poem, if you felt so inclined. I decided to go with second. Here was my shot at it:

Dear Future Employer,

A positive attitude through tough deadlines is what you seek
My reputation as team player and hard worker have made me rather unique
I hope to help your company grow
As more and more complex projects show
I appreciate you taking the time while things are hard
I look forward to speaking with you, Best Regards

Ryan Connelly

Not bad right? I'll make sure to update you all on how this new experience goes. But for now, what a cool/new idea! You can find the job link here if craigslist hasn't taken it down yet

Letter of Reference - Richard Dinges, Municipal Program Manager, Summit Engineering Inc.

To whom it may concern:

For the past two years I have had the pleasure working with Ryan Connelly on several of my engineering projects at Summit Engineering. Ryan has consistently shown his enthusiasm and dedication towards this work and has excellent work skills and an excellent knowledge in Autocad. He has expanded his knowledge in several engineering fields including water and wastewater design, civil engineering aspects and electrical schematic drawings.

Ryan has continually demonstrated a positive attitude and a willingness to help others and continues to expand his knowledge by his effort to continue his education at Santa Rosa JC. He works very well with little direction and will ask questions when needed.

I would be happy to discuss any questions you may have regarding this matter, please call me at 415-308-5041.

Sincerely,

Richard Dinges
